Fossil fuels are a big reason why the climate is changing. A fossil fuel is a mineral that is buried deep under the ground and could be made when animals/plants die. They were discovered around 4,000 years ago when someone in northern China came across an odd black rock.
Some countries have decided to stop using fossil fuels, for example first country to ban them was France. One of the countries that has the most fossil fuels is China. When fossil fuels are burned, the gas makes the temperature warmer. The world grows hotter every day.
Fossil fuels are not good for the environment for a few reasons. When we use them, the gas that comes out traps heat and only a small amount escapes and goes back into space. It's kind of like being inside a car on a hot day.
The gas in the car traps the heat, and it's called the Greenhouse Effect.
Did you know that ice reflects 50 to 70 percent of solar energy back to space?
Did you know that because of climate change, the ice in the Arctic and other places that have ice is melting because of extreme heat?
Did you know that the world would grow hotter at a faster pace if there was no more ice?
Did you know that ice keeps the waters cool so it acts like an air conditioner?
