ABOUT ME:
Hello 5th Grade Families!
Welcome to my website. This is my 4th year as a classroom teacher at Ascent Classical Academy and I am thrilled to be here.
Prior to teaching I ran my own business as a personal trainer as well as managed several different fitness studios. I absolutely love helping others live lives to their fullest potential and that passion has led to teaching students to do the same.
I am passionate about what I do and believe my energy drives that passion.
When I am not in the classroom, you can find me outdoors, usually running, horseback riding or hiking on the beautiful Colorado trails. I am also an avid learner and reader and am always reading something for my own personal enjoyment.
EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY:
I believe that all students can and want to learn. It is my job as a teacher to lead my students in an environment that is respectful, loving and caring. I believe that by teaching to the hearts and minds of students that we are able to cultivate a love for learning and aid in the development of their moral character and civic virtue so that we can adhere to a love for the true, good and beautiful.
MY FAVORITE THINGS
I love Pizza and Mexican food. I love coffee, sparkling water, and unsweetened iced tea.
Some of my favorite snacks are dark chocolate, popcorn, pretzels, and apples with peanut butter.
I love to read and am always learning. My favorite book of all time is the Holy Bible. I also have an affinity for the roaring twenties and love The Great Gatsby- by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I am also an dedicated fan of C.S. Lewis' works and The Chronicles of Narnia series is on the top of my list as are his shorter works like, The Abolition of Man and The Great Divorce.
I love history and studied it in college. I also love literature.
What attracted me to classical education was the emphasis on the development of moral character and civic virtue in an orderly and disciplined environment. The focus on teaching the good, true, and beautiful and guides us and our students towards living good human lives. Einstein says, "Education is not the learning of the many facts but the training of the mind to think." Ascent focus' on teaching our students how to dig deeper into what makes up the characters of our souls by understanding truth, acquiring the knowledge of right and wrong and developing a love for innate beauty. In my humble opinion, this type of education is unparalleled. It is noble work to pursue this in a society that is built on self-care and "my truths," thoughts that if we aren't careful can damage the very essence of who we are and what we are called to do in order to live a good life.
