Chromebooks at DBIS

Our Chromebook Journey

In August 2016 we received delivery of 42 Acer R11 and 12 Edxis Google Chromebooks. A very generous donation from the school PTSA committee supported this initial rollout.

The 42 Touch screen R11 machines were immediately put into use across the Primary school and we loved them! Staff and students really liked how easy they were to use. The touch screen feature was a huge hit and the fact that all student's online resources were immediately to hand with one simple log in was another great bonus.

At the beginning of Term 2, our drop proof, water resistant Edxis machines were placed in our Early Years campus. These very durable machines were very well received by staff and students alike. It took our youngest learners a little longer to get to grips with the touch pad of these machines, but they now have even more opportunities to access a wonderful array of online resources. They are a perfect compliment to the iPads we already have in place.

Following the successful pilot of Chromebooks, a decision was made to introduce a 1:1 Chromebook programme for all students in Year 6 and Year 7 in 2017. We also added a class set of 25 Chromebooks to Years 3, 4 and 5. To support the use of Chromebooks with our students, all Early Years and Primary class teachers were also provided with the same device.

This academic year, the 1:1 Chromebook program has been expanded even further and we now have 1:1 Chromebooks from Year 3 through to Year 8. We have an exciting new model added to our range this year. The Asus C213 is a robust machine that will withstand drops and water splashes. It also has a dual camera. This new model will be in use in Year 6 and Year 7 this year.
