The Generate Sort Connect Elaborate Concept Map routine helps learners to:

• activate prior knowledge
• generate ideas about a topic
• facilitate connections between and amongst ideas

Documenting Thinking

In this routine, students document their learning throughout each step, either individually, in pairs or small group. Students should be given the opportunity to share thinking with others.

Here are some examples of how you could use this routine across the curriculum:

• English: exploring a character's past actions and how they have helped shape the character we see now (see video left)
