Entertainment is a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course that provides knowledge and a range of skills suitable for employment in a the Entertainment industry and covers many aspects of the production of any type of live performance or event and includes audio, front of house, lighting, staging and vision systems.
Some topics covered include: operate vision systems, assist with bump in and bump out of shows and participate in collaborative creative projects.
Do you have good ear for detail in all areas of sound, an aptitude for working with computers and audio equipment, enjoy working as part of a team and have an interest in electronic sound and vision production, and recording equipment then Entertainment could assist with your career path.
Entertainment incorporates units of competency for an AQF Statement of Attainment towards a Certificate III in Live Production and Services.

Entertainment is a competency-based course and requires students to develop the competencies, skills and knowledge described by each unit under the training package.
A student must demonstrate to a qualified assessor/ the teacher, they can effectively carry out the tasks to the standard required in order to be assessed as competent. There is no mark awarded in competency-based assessment. Students are assessed as either ‘competent’ or ‘not yet competent’ through observation, demonstration, written and verbal communication. Successful completion of this course provides a Statement of Attainment towards a Certificate III in Entertainment or when studied with Entertainment Specialisation in Year 12 you can achieve a Certificate III in Live Production and Services.
The HSC examination for will involve a two hour written examination and is optional if a student does not require an ATAR. A Certificate III ranks as an ATAR or 67 with the University of Newcastle as a pathway to Uni.
Entertainment, a Vocational Education and Training course, provides real world experience in the world of work through NESA mandated work placement. Students must complete a minimum of 70 hours work placement per 240-hour course over 2 years. Students experience work placement with radio, sound and stage production and a range of other business environments locally and beyond. 35 hours of work placement is completed with school-based functions. In the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC), mandatory work placement is a requirement for VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses, and non-completion of this placement can lead to the course being withheld from the HSC.
In Year 10 St Peter's students achieved a Senior First Aid Certificate which is used as credit transfer for Entertainment. Entertainment students will also gain their Construction Induction Certificate 'white card'.
Gaining a nationally recognised industry qualification giving credit towards future study.
Entertainment can be studied with a School-Based Traineeship (SBT.) For more information on SBATs click here or see the Careers Advisor.
Students of Entertainment have the opportunity to progress to enter the workforce or post school further studies at TAFE or private providers or tertiary study to gain further Entertainment industry qualifications. They may enter the world of work in events management, audio and lighting technician, advertising, concerts and stage director.
