A School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) include a wide range of trades and businesses, e.g. business services, construction, hairdressing, hospitality, nursing, retail just to name a few. SBATs enable you to attain a nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification as well as a Higher School Certificate (HSC) while engaging in paid work. SBATs can be linked to many courses and careers, for example business services, retail services (McDonalds/ KFC), hospitality, plumbing and warehousing.
Delivery of a variety of courses for SBATs can be though St Peters Catholic College or eVET.
See VET at St Peter's for more information.
A School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) is a competency based course and requires students to develop the competencies, skills and knowledge described by each unit under the training package and Training Plan.
A student must demonstrate to a qualified assessor/ teacher, they can effectively carry out the skills and tasks to the standard required in the appropriate industry in order to be assessed as competent.
Depending on the course students select for their SBAT they may have the option to sit a HSC examination that contributes to an ATAR.
A Certificate III VET qualification can provide a pathway entry to University.
A School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) requires an employer who is willing to commit to a minimum two year Training Plan while you complete your HSC and work 1 day per week with the employer. This work may be during the school week, e.g. in the case of construction or on weekends or evenings in the case of Retail or Hospitality. SBATs are 'earn an learn' while gaining your HSC and possibly an ATAR .
For additional units towards the HSC and in recognition of the workplace learning, students can link an SBAT with Industry Based Learning (IBL),
