Umang Pathak is a lawyer, social worker, a teacher, a student, a mentor and a mentee. Her life philosophy -‘He who learns, teaches and he who teaches, learns ~ African proverb’, drives every aspect of her life contributing to her achievements in a given sphere. With experience spanning over two decades, her work experience has traversed many worlds. As a lawyer, Umang has worked with country’s top law firms (Desai & Diwanji, AZB & Partners and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas) advising corporations, civil society organizations and students and peers. Her legal practice primarily focuses on corporate law, corporate governance, ESG (Environment Social and Governance)/sustainable business advisory, white-collar crimes and dispute and regulatory. She is founder of ESG Advisory Services focusing on consulting corporations in relation to dispute, regulatory, white collar crimes, sustainability and ESG advisory including corporate social responsible strategy and execution. She also advises civil society organizations regarding due diligence, project planning, funding, monitoring, evaluation, assessment and reporting.

As a social-worker and an advocate she has been associated with many reputed NGOs (Pestalozzi World Children Society, Global Food Banking Network etc., Parivartan, Justice Sunanda Bhandare Foundation), citizen’s forums (National Campaign for People’s Right to Information), independent public interest litigators, National Human Rights Commission and worked with catalysts of their respective fields including the current Chief Minister of Indian capital, Mr. Arvind Kejrival. She has been an active proponent of people’s right to information. Before the enactment of the Right to Information Act, 2005, she used the legal framework under the Delhi Right to Information Act, 2001 for the implementation and enforcement of government welfare schemes in Delhi. After the enactment of central legislation, she advocated for right to information by assisting people and organisations to file application, make representations to appellate bodies to obtain information under the central legislation. She has worked on host of social causes such as rehabilitation of right to information, rape victims, conducting sting operations with media assistance to implement the right to information legislation and organizing public campaigns such as Drive Against Bribe.

She undertakes teaching assignments, from time to time, for students of professional courses including law, company secretary and social work. She has taught ‘Social Legislation and Social Security’ to the M.A. students at her alma mater the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi. She regularly takes teaching assignments such as conducting web-series on Corporate Social Responsibility for Corporate Law Journal. During Covid crisis, she conducted online classes on Arbitration Law for the law students of Unitedworld School of Law. She is National President, Legal Awarenes Council and member of Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WICCI). In this role, she is instrumental in creating the country-wide network of State Councils and District Councils to create wider impact regarding issues and themes pertaining to gender, business and law.

She is also member of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Ladies Organisation (FLO) and one of the founding member of FLO Advisory Cell and therefore a legal expert for around 7000 FLO members to reach out for legal advise. She had been instrumental in advising their FLO in publication of a handbook on commercial laws and protective laws for women in India. EVENT- ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Rules:

I. This competition is open for individual participation only.

II. Topic will be given on the spot.

III. Word limit is maximum 1500 words.

IV. Time allocated is One Hour.

V. Cadets can write the essay either in English or Hindi only.

VI. The essay writing competition is conduct via Google form. Cadets need to upload their handwritten essay into PDF format on google forms.

Abhishek Issar is an experienced Senior banker with a demonstrated history of working in the Media, Entertainment, Sports and Gaming sectors under the emerging businesses category. Having spent 16 years as a professional, in the fields of Media and Financial advisory, Abhishek has been instrumental in executing Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships in the said industries, forging Corporate & Govt Alliances and curating B2B (Business to Business) and B2G (Business to Government) engagement for Domestic and International relations. He also is a seasoned industry analyst in the Media, Entertainment and Sports sectors.

In his previous avatar, Abhishek worked in mainstream news at the TV Today Group, as a broadcast anchor for over 7 yrs. He covered sports and politics as a ‘Special Correspondent’ at the erstwhile Headlines Today. The stint covered news, views and interviews from policy makers, industrialists to sporting icons across landmark events. Abhishek subsequently served a 9 year stint in the financial and strategic consulting advisory arena, prominently as a knowledge banker.

He is a specialized knowledge banker at Yes Bank with extensive experience in the Sports, Media & Entertainment (M&E) sectors, having led multiple strategic and business initiatives at the bank, developing key relationships with India’s leading institutions in Sports and M&E. As part of the banks special ‘knowledge banking’ approach, Abhishek has been instrumental in creating a pan-India business grid for sunrise industries including, Sports, Wellness, Health, Media, IT and Innovations, and takes a keen interest in mapping new developments in each of these key economies of the future.

Suvarna Chowdhury, a graduate from Delhi University is a graceful professional kathak dancer and a well known performing artist who possesses a sense of rhythm, a feeling for music, and a creative ability to express herself. She has done MA in Kathak from Bangiya University and has been performing since her childhood.

Currently, she is associated with the world wide popular Musical, “Mughal-E-Azam” as one of the kathak artists. Apart from this, she has also danced in two Bollywood movies: Milan Talkies and Super 30.

Dr. Nidhi Kapoor is currently serving as Faculty of Commerce in Kalindi College, University of Delhi, pursued her M.Phil (2010) and Ph.D. (2017) from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. She has taught at Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi for 5 years. Her areas of expertise include Management Principles, Human Resource Management, Corporate Laws, Cyber Crimes and Laws.

Dr. Nidhi is an editorial board member of ‘Corporate Governance Insight’, a bi-annual refereed journal. Dr. Nidhi has many research papers published in reputed national and international journals. She was awarded with ‘Best Paper Award’ at International Conference organized by Global Research Foundation for Corporate Governance in 2019 and at the national conference on Indian Economy & Recent Reforms organized by Institute of Innovation in Technology and Management in association with ICSSR in 2018. She has also been invited as session chair/co-chair in various national and international conferences.

Dr. Kapoor is an elected member of Delhi University’s Academic Council- the highest academic body of the University. She has served as NSS Programme Officer in Kalindi College from July 2016 to July 2018. The students have conceptualized and successfully completed various social service projects under her guidance.
