I traced a minion I create my phone holder. I had to use the Pen tool, Curavture tool, the Direct select tool, the Selection tool and Fill. To create my minion the way I wanted it to look.
So after I traced my outline I need to cut a hole in him with the Shape tool. The reason i needed a hole is because I need away to make my minion stand up. And after I finished everything in Adobe Illustrator I could print it out with the laser cutter. The reason its hard to see those lines is because they are 0.001 pt.
Then comes the laser cutter! What I had to do was make sure that all of my lines were the correct size for cutting or engraving. The cut lines had to be 0.001pt and for engraving anything bigger and filled in. I sent my print to the laser cutter; I had to set up the laser cutter before I could print it. As your work is printing you can watch it though this tinted window on the top.
After everything was printed out and ready to go I could take it out of the laser cutter. I took it out and put the two pieces together. I want to see if it could actually hold up my phone, and of course it did. It was really nice to see the finial project come together. The long rectangle is what holds up my phone and gives support to the minion; so he doesn't fall over with the weight of my phone.
In this project we could chose what we wanted to make, I chose to make a phone holder. I used Adobe Illustrator to design my phone holder. Then we printed it out using the laser cutter and I also engraved some clothes on him and gave him eyeballs. I could have made a sticker and the reason I didn't is, because I missed a lot of class due to cross country meets and so I didn't have enough time to create a sticker. I spent all Friday making sure I could print out my minion and I new that making a sticker won't happen.
Reflection:
What went well during this project was using Adobe Illustrator to create my minion and using the laser cutter. What also went well getting my lines the correct size and tracing my minion. As you see not much really went well in this project and that's ok with me I am just happy I had a final piece in the end that I could take home.
I faced many challenges during this project. the first one was missing a lot of class because I was running cross country. I missed a lot of class time witch made it really hard for me to get my minion done on time. Another, getting it finished on Friday. I had to ask Mr. Suter so many questions and he really helped me get my minion done on time. I would have trouble deleting lines I didn't need or editing my minion. I was really having trouble with this project. When making my sticker I faced so many challenges, because i had to make it 2 times. My sticker the first time went really well, but the second time didn't because when we put the mouth and holes it needed only the mouth would work. So Mr. Suter had to use the pathfinder and so other tools to get all the holes to appear. Then after that I sent to to the laptop and had to use the laptop connected to the sticker printer so that it would print my sticker. I felt that my sticker was more complicated then it needed to be.
I absolutely do things differently. First, I would not miss as much class time as I did because that really gave me a disadvantage from the other kids who didn't miss class because of a sport. Second, editing my minion better and deleting the lines I didn't need from my project. Third, having enough time to create a sticker for my minion which I didn't have time to do. I might actually redo the whole project, because I feel that there are details that I would have wanted to add but couldn't because of my time. I do like the final result I just feel that it was a little rushed. I would definitely wanted to have more time for my sticker, because I feel that maybe it would have looked better even though it looks really good I fell that it could have been better.
I was really happy that my minion actually held up my phone. I wasn't sure but I was very happy that it did. I really do love the phone holder I created!!!
I made the sticker in office hours, because I had cross country so that's when I made my sticker. I had to use Adobe Illustrator and my minion to create the sticker. I had to make It two times, because the first time I didn't have any of the holes that it needed and I didn't flip it. I flipped the sticker so that it would be the opposite way then my minion so it could fit on the back. I would the clipping mask to create it and thats how I got my sticker. Than I just put it onto my minion.
