We first began this porject by brainstorming what we wanted our signs to be and if that was something achevivable with the CNC machine. We used paper and pencils and began our sketches. I decided that it would be cool to make a Rainbow with the word RADIOHEAD inside it to repersent the band album In Rainbows
We then went into illustrator and got our basic idea out using the curvature tool and pen tool. As well as the text tool.
I had difficulty getting the text to be connected between the two clouds or follow the curvature of the bottom text from the top of the letters.
I finally was able to get the text the way I wanted it to and then was able to outline it to make my lines for Fusion 360 work
We then converted our designs in illustrator to DFX files so that we could load it inot fusion 360
We then took the dimensions of our piece of wood and create a block to cut our object from. We then told Mr.Supiro the dimensions of our wood for him to cut out and for us to prep for the cnc machine
Once we taped and glued down our piece of wood we then loaded up the cnc machine with our x y and z
For mine we had to go back into fusion and change the order of which line was first. Once we changed that it was time to start the cnc machine!
For the cutout I used a differnet drill bit than I did for the engraving. For the inlay/engraving I used a v shaped bit with gave be some really cool lines on the inside of the raindbow.
Once that was finished it was time to paint!
And then it was time to spray on a clear finish!
Once I was all finished I took some artistic photos. The ultimate plan for this is to be hung up somewhere or be put on a shelf!
1)What went well?
1)My idea process and painting the backside of the sign was probably the part of my porject that went the best.
2)What could be improved?
2)Parts of my painting and planning could have defintely been imporved during this project.
3)What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
3)If I were to do something different I would defintely want to know exactly what iu want to paint instead of just winging it.
