The first was thinking of an idea for my sign. I have an older sister who is in college and her name is Frances but everyone calls her Franny. I miss her a lot when she's at college so I wanted to make her a sign to give her as a present when she comes home for Christmas. The second step of this project was to make the design of my sign in Adobe Illustrator. It took a few tries to get the design right but I settled on the design that is in the picture to the left. The next step was to move this outline of the design to Fusion 360.
After the design was in Fusion 360, the next step was to make it 3D and make tool paths so the Cnc knew where to cut. When I completed these steps, I emailed my project to the computer in the maker's space.
The next step I completed was printing the sign on the CNC. the first step to ensure that this went smoothly and the wood didn't move while the CNC was in motion. I put tape down on the table and the back of my piece of wood, then glue them together but making sure the glue only got on the tape. To get my project to the CNC I emailed my project to the makers space. Once I found my project on the computer I set the x, y, and z axis on the CNC so it would know where my piece of wood was. After I had all the points set, I pressed go and watched the machine cut out my sign.
After my sign had been cut out, I sanded it so there would be no rough edges and the paint would go on smoothly. The last step I did was paint my sign. I used ariclic paint and choose to paint it pink. I didnt want just one color of pink over the whoel sign, so i mixed the pink with white to made a litter pink and made a ombrea across the sign.
I really liked this project. It was challenge but I learned a lot. A few things that went well for me were getting my design in adobe, cutting out the sign on the CNC went very smoothly, and painting was really fun and I think it adds to the sign. Some challengs I faced were being behind when I transfered my disgn in to fusion 360. If I was going to do this project again I would make my sign more detailed and not so basic, I would also think more about the paint and the colors.
