For this project I wanted to make something simple and pretty. I got a kitten recelty and I wanted to make something to do with a cat. I started looking at ideas, and I found silhouette of cats. I really like that idea and I thought that I would laser cut a pretty design on it.
The first step was to trace the image in Adobe Illustrator. This step didn't take long because I have done it many times now. After I was happy with how the outline looked, I went to file and export and exported as a DXF.
I opened fusion 360 and inserted the DXF from Adobe. After I had to image, I pressed finished sketch and then extrude. This makes it 3D so the CNC can cut it out. I then made tool paths choose the right size bit and made a 2D couture. When this was finished I post prucess it so I could sent it as an emial to the makers space.
Once I taped and glued my peaice of wood to the CNC, I set up the X, Y, and Z axis. After I made sure these were right.
I didn't have time to complete this project but this is what I would have done if I did have time.
After I would have taken my cat silhouette off the CNC and sanded it, I would have gone back to Adobe Illustrator and created a simple pattern to laser cut on top of the cat. I then would have put wood oil on the wood so it looked finished.
I wished that I would have finished this project. I really liked this idea and I think it would have looked nice. Some things that went well were, I traced the image in Adobe Illustrator very quickly and it felt like I really knew what I was doing. I also think that the CNC set up went very smoothly. Some things that I wish were better, are I had enough time to finish so I could see the finial project, and just remember some of the details that I need to do in fusion 360 to get the project complete were sometimes challenging to remember.
