How Do We Engage Kids?
We believe in a very active learning environment where children are actively engaged. It has been our experience that the child who is engaged is the child that learns! The instructional strategies we use to accomplish this is called cooperative learning. Students work primarily in teams of four to learn and practice new skills. Let us assure you that this model guarantees that all students are accountable and they get to participate equally so no one gets a free ride! We monitor this very closely.
You will be excited to know that kids LOVE this model of teaching! Why? Because they get to interact with their classmates and learn at the same time! We have found that this model not only increases the academic performance of my students,
but it also develops their social skills, enhances communication, and improves self-esteem.
When it comes to testing, we don't use group scores or group grades. Every child is assessed individually. The grades in our classrooms will reflect what your child knows at the time of testing. It has been our experience that our students always do better on tests because they were able to learn and work in teams!

FREE PRIZE - NO MATTER WHAT - FOR EVERY KID!
We frantically need your help and it only takes about 3 minutes or less! Our school's Title I budget amounts are based upon the number of students who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches. This year breakfasts and lunches will be free for all elementary students but we will still need families to make sure they sign up here just in case they might qualify! Those who already completed this for us, your child will receive their prize this coming week!
Free Reduced Application for Families with ONLY elementary school students click here!
ATTENDANCE-Students that miss just two days of school a month can fall significantly behind and continue through middle and high school.
ANYTIME your child will not be at school, please call the office at 270-852-7450. DPCS policy allows families to have up to 8 sick call in days per year. If a child has not been called in sick or does not have a doctor's note upon return or faxed to the school within 3 days, the absence in counted as unexcused. After 3 unexcused absences a child is considered truant. After 6 unexcused absences, a child is considered habitually truant and the parent or guardian can be charged with educational neglect.
