A primary goal of the Davie County Schools gifted education program is to improve the educational performance of gifted students. The program identifies students with high abilities and high academic achievement using multiple criteria. An array of services in a variety of settings is utilized in order to meet the academic needs of highly-able learners.
In grades 4 and 5, gifted students are grouped together for acceleration and enrichment. The mathematics curriculum is compacted so that students work at an accelerated pace and progress through some above-grade level standards. The language arts curriculum provides students with materials and activities that elaborate upon the content, skills, and products of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
A nurturing program is provided for gifted candidates in grades 1 - 3. The AIG specialist helps the regular classroom teacher identify students who may need nurturing services. Students who have demonstrated mastery of grade-level skills are provided with challenging enrichment activities.
