FINDING SUCCESS:
Participation and attitude are very important in this class. Some of the things we will do, your child has never tried before and he/she may have to try multiple times to be successful. This class is about trial and error, learning through failures, and growing from that knowledge. It's about exploring his/her interests and areas that he/she may have never thought to explore before. As long as he/she keeps an open mind, is willing to try every day, and turns in assignments on time, he/she will be fine. Please talk with your child about having a positive attitude and learning to persevere through challenges.

WHERE DOES MY CHILD FIND THE ASSIGNMENTS for TED?
Canvas. We do not use Google Classroom. They access it through Class Link and NCEd Cloud. As a parent or legal guardian, you can sign up to be an "observer" in Canvas. Please email me if you want to know how to do this. (Please note this is not the same thing as Canva.)
WHAT IF MY CHILD TURNS IN AN ASSIGNMENT LATE?
Students are expected to turn in assignments on the due date. Assignments should NOT be emailed. Electronic assignments should be turned in to Canvas. Paper/Pencil should be turned in at the time it is asked for in class. Students trying to earn As and Bs will work hard to turn assignments in on time. Therefore, late assignments cause a drop in points based on the scale shown below. Those points cannot be earned back if your child chooses to redo the assignment. The assignment will be graded for content, starting at the highest possible grade based on when it was turned in.
On-time - 100
1 day late - 80
2 days late - 70
3 days late - 60
4 days late - 50
5 days late - 0
Occasionally, I have parents of students email asking me to accept late work beyond this time frame. Please understand, in order to help prepare your child for high school and the world in which they will work, I am unable to accept late assignments after 3 days. The only exceptions are if you were absent. You get 5 days to turn in the assignment with no points off. If it's not turned in by the 5th day after you return, it will be entered as a zero and cannot be changed.
Occasionally, some students see a substitute teacher in the classroom and think it is a free day. That is not the case. My expectation for when a sub is in the room is that ALL assignments are expected to be completed during THAT CLASS PERIOD. If I think the assignment may take longer, I will indicate in the assignment directions/due date that students have additional time after school to turn it in. There will be a cut-off time for turning in the assignment later that day (usually 11:59 if I think the assignment will take that long). The due date and time show up on the assignment and under the "To Do" list in Canvas. Therefore, it's important to understand: ANY ASSIGNMENT NOT COMPLETED THAT SAME DAY IN CLASS OR BY THE CUT-OFF TIME WILL RECEIVE A ZERO AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE MADE UP. The zero will go in the grade book and stand due to not working during the class period.
