About Mr. Burian
Stephen Burian teaches 4th and 5th grade orchestra in the Davenport Community Schools. Currently he teaches at four elementaries: Truman, Jefferson, Garfield and Madison.
Mr. Burian previously was the Assistant Director of Public Engagement for the School of Music at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In that role he was instrumental in the leadership and operations of many programs including Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM), the Illinois Community Music Academy, the Illinois High School Orchestra Clinic, The Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Workshop, the Illinois Choral Conducting Symposium, and many other programs that served up to 15,000 youth, adults, teachers and professionals each year.
Prior to working at Illinois, he was a music teacher in suburban Detroit, teaching AP Music Theory and Music History at the Center for Advanced Studies and the Arts (CASA) as well as teaching music classes at Rochester College (Rochester, Michigan).
While in Michigan his experiences include performing with many orchestras and chamber music groups. He was also the founding conductor of a chamber orchestra (Orchard Lake Community Orchestra) and was the music director of the Dodworth Saxhorn Band, "America's Premiere 19th Century Brass Band."
He has been Assistant Principal Horn of the Quad City Symphony orchestra since 2011 and currently serves as chair of the musicians' committee of the QCSO. He is also a member of the American String Teachers Association.
This is Mr. Burian's second year in the Davenport Schools and his 22nd year of teaching music.
