On January 28th, 2024 , two psychiatrists at DHMC, Dr. Matthew Duncan and Dr. Julia Frew, joined a group of 21 interested students to discuss their journeys in medicine, their research and clinical work, and their perspectives on the current problems and progress in mental healthcare. Over a catered dinner, Dr. Frew and Dr. Duncan shared their expertise and insight to answer students' thoughtful questions ranging from the role of technology and AI in mental health treatments to the social determinants of mental health, along with a discussion of biomarkers and the clinical diagnosis of mental illnesses.
On Valentine's Day 2024, NSS raised $500 selling flowers in Novak. The money was donated to the Good Neighbor Health Clinic in honor of Dr. John Sanders, one of the founding physicians in our Shadowing Program and a long-time volunteer at the GNHC. Thanks to all Dartmouth students who supported our effort!
On July 31st, 2024, Dr. Thesen, a professor of medical education at the Geisel School of Medicine, joined a group of about 20 students for a discussion on the role of AI in enhancing the training and preparation of future healthcare professionals. During a catered dinner, Dr. Thesen demonstrated how AI can assist in the diagnostic process by analyzing data from past cases. He also provided students with hands-on experience using Geisel's AI patient actor, a tool designed to help medical students practice patient interaction and diagnosis. Dr. Thesen shared his insights on the benefits of AI in healthcare and engaged with students as they asked questions about its limitations and future applications in the medical field.
