In Pacific cultures, the sharing of food symbolizes community, connection, and hospitality. Traditionally, this was in the form of large feasts among communities called ʻahaʻaina in Hawaiʻi. Today, potlucks and lūʻau are a very common occurrence, bringing together a group of people, each sharing a piece of themselves through food. Across the Pacific, food serves as a universal language, uniting people in celebration and enduring bonds of tradition.
