20S Quarantine Edition
This course covers aspects of computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE), and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) for machine elements and products. The CAD component provides advanced instruction in parametric engineering design using xDesign, xShape and simulation tools to design and optimize mechanical components to meet precision specifications while minimizing build time and complexity.
We will employ project management tools to facilitate online design collaboration. In the CAM component, we will focus on 3D printing, including a deep coverage of 3D printing hardware and advanced controls available in the PrusaSlicer interface software. We will focus on design for manufacturing and optimization of the manufacturing process. Integration of the design, analysis, and manufacturing components of the course is accomplished through a series of design exercises that culminate in a final design project.
