UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals
Legal internships provide a unique and exciting opportunity to gain insight into the day-to-day work of a prominent international judicial institution. Created by the UNSC in 2010, the Mechanism if the successor of two pioneering international criminal tribunals, the ICTY and the ICTR. You have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of international law in one of the following areas: Office of the President, Chambers, Office of the Prosecutor, and Registry.
American Society of International Law Internships
ASIL offers students opportunities to become involved with its work while learning first-hand about the field of international law. All positions are based at ASIL's Washington, D.C. headquarters and generally require a minimum commitment of 15 hr/wk during the fall and spring semesters and usually more during the summer. All internships are unpaid. During their internship, participants are encouraged both to attend ASIL events and to take advantage of the plethora of programs in international law and foreign relations that the DC area provides.
Development Office Intern: The intern will assist the Director of Development and Partnerships in multiple functions supporting the day-to-day duties of Society's Development Office. Expected responsibilities include managing records, assisting with partnership programs, prospect research, and supporting special events and programs. Candidates for the internship should be rising Senior undergraduate students.
Programs Intern: The intern will support the Society's programs, education, and research activities at ASIL headquarters in Washington, D.C. Duties may include day-of event support, assisting in publicizing events, preparing continuing legal education (CLE) documents for state approval, compiling diversity information from ASIL events, attending policy and informational meetings around D.C., and providing a de-brief on these meetings.
Supreme Court Internship Program
The Supreme Court Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to intern at one of four Supreme Court offices. Internships are offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer.
Application timeline: Applications for fall are due June 15, applications for spring are due October 15, and Applications for summer are due March 1.
The ACLU offers a wide variety of advocacy and law internships. Not all internships are open to undergraduates.
