JMC Circulation Desk Assistant Job Description
Starting Rate: $18.00
JMC Circulation Desk Assistants are responsible for staffing the circulation desk in the Jones Media Center, located in the Baker-Berry Library. Student assistants are often the first point of contact between the Jones Media Center and the patrons who use the space and services, which include undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community.
JMC Circulation Desk Tasks may include: assisting patrons with circulation and equipment questions; assisting patrons with library specific and general inquiries on the phone and in person; checking out equipment and materials through the automated circulation system; answering the telephone; performing other duties as delegated. On the job training is provided.
The position requires:
A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
Fulfill all training requirements, clock in and out using TimeX, submit your timesheet for approval in a timely manner.
Time Management, punctuality, the initiative and responsibility to work in an unsupervised environment, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills,
Strong communication with supervisors in person, by email, through GroupMe and by phone.
The ability to maintain confidentiality, accuracy and attention to detail, follow direction and ask questions as needed.
Interest in film and audio equipment.
The ability to navigate the library software, online library catalog, and library webpages within the first few weeks of term.
Strong attention to detail when processing equipment requests from patrons and checking in equipment kits with multiple pieces.
Adhere to library policies and procedures, familiarity and willingness to learn about Dartmouth’s five libraries, the campus and community.
