ABOUT
MEET SARAH PARR MALEGA
Sarah Malega is honored to have served as your District 1 Lake Worth Beach City Commissioner since March 9, 2021, and she is enthusiastic about continuing to fight for you for another term!
Representing Lake Worth Beach has been both an honor and a valuable learning experience for Sarah. Taking her role seriously from day one, she engaged in ride-alongs with Department Directors, staff, PBSO, and Fire to understand the day-to-day operations, obstacles, and challenges faced by each department.
In her first term, Commissioner Malega accomplished a substantial amount of work. Here is a glimpse of what she has been up to:
Oversaw the installation of 5 water fountains throughout the City, providing access to clean drinking water for ALL, including children.
Supported the community in the revitalization of the Unity Wall on Wingfield.
Advocated for the approval of Gulfstream Hotel.
Assisted in the creation of a City Charter review, advocating for term limits and single district voting.
Championed the mandatory use of PBSO body cameras for Lake Worth Beach.
Played a key role in hiring a new City Manager, Carmen Davis, a former County Administrator and City planner.
Established an LGBTQ liaison and is actively working towards the Human Rights Council Municipal Equity Index.
Created a Hometown Hero Challenge Coin to honor those who sacrifice for the benefit of others.
Passed financial policies to secure the future of Pinecrest and IA Banks Cemetery, as well as obtaining a historical designation with a historical designation marker.
Sarah has left an indelible mark on Lake Worth Beach as a prolific volunteer, community coordinator, and change agent. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she volunteered at food distribution sites throughout Lake Worth Beach, helping to feed families in crisis. She attributes her sense of small-town pride to her upbringing in a small town just outside of Detroit.
Blessed to be raised by her loving, hard-working grandparents, Sarah learned not only her work ethic from her grandfather but also the importance of being steadfast in pursuing her goals and, above all, being loyal to God, her family, and her friends.
In 2003, Sarah moved to Florida and continued to pursue a successful career in auto sales. In 2006, she founded PersonalAutoShoppers.com, Inc., which has thrived on referrals from satisfied clients. In 2010, Sarah and her wife, Dawn, opened the City of Lake Worth’s first fitness facility, The Zoo Health Club of Lake Worth. The Zoo Gym was named “Gym of the Year” by South Florida Gay News, six years in a row for Palm Beach County.
Just two years after opening her business, Sarah's love for Lake Worth's charm and character convinced her to become a homeowner. Through the CRA and the Adopt-A-Family NSP2 program, Sarah purchased her first home in the Royal Poinciana neighborhood. She believes that breaking down barriers and encouraging community is achieved by becoming the voice for those who have none, a principle that guided her and her wife, Dawn, to become foster parents.
Sarah's love for people and her desire to see Lake Worth grow is evident in the positive changes she brought about as President of her neighborhood association. Actively serving as President for three years and a board member since 2013, she initiated a monthly neighborhood clean-up through a partnership with the Solid Waste Authority, receiving the S.W.A. Volunteer & Coordinator Award for over 250 hours. Sarah also played a crucial role in advocating for the installation of 14 stop signs to increase safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and children.
In 2014, as a graduate from the Office of Community Revitalization Resident to Action Program, Sarah wrote and was awarded a grant for Royal Poinciana to illuminate dark zones in the community. The lights were distributed and installed at no cost to the residents, proving essential in aiding PBSO in lowering crime.
Dedicating her life to being a community bridge builder, Sarah sponsors the Children's Toy Drive at the Guatemalan-Maya Center and travels to Freeport Bahamas as a Hurricane relief volunteer. Through her businesses, volunteering, and community involvement, Sarah continues to make a positive impact. She would be honored to receive your vote in the 2024 election. Say "yes!" to new Lake Worth Beach city leaders... say "YES!" to Sarah Malega.
