Career & Technical Education

Navigate your future with CTE!

Who we are

Programs in Career and Technical Education are designed to contribute to the broad educational achievement of students, including basic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as their ability to work independently and as part of a team, think creatively, solve problems, and utilize technology. These tools and experiences make school more relevant, and ensure students are ready for the real world. Whether students plan to further their education in community colleges, technical schools, four-year colleges and universities, receive on-the-job training, or pursue careers in the military, CTE can be the first step in a pathway toward productive employment and citizenship.

The CTE faculty at First Flight High School have a combined 200+ years of education and industry experience.

CTSO's

Career & Technical Student Organizations

In 2024-2025, First Flight High School will offer a number of opportunities for students to be engaged in their courses outside or beyond the classroom.  Career Technical Student Organizations or CTSO's, offer an opportunity for fellowship and competitive application of the knowledge and the skills a student learns in their CTE classes.  Students can participate in one of three student organizations at FFHS that are connected to their CTE curriculum (HOSA, SkillsUSA, NTHS).

For more information on these and other student organizations in North Carolina visit the NCPPI website.

EF/Educational Tours (STEM Discovery: London)

From code breaking and criminal investigation to the cryptic creation of Stonehenge, London is a prime spot for problem solvers and inquiring minds.  Let STEM be your guide during your exploration of London.  Uncover secret messages at Bletchley Park, the birthplace of modern information technology.  Practice your sleuthing skills during a CSI-inspired forensics workshop. Plant your feet on two different hemispheres at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich with the English capital as your backdrop.  This 9-day tour is slated for the summer of 2025.  For more information on how to enroll for this trip and learn about affordable payment options, see Mr. Hanf or email him at hanfst@daretolearn.org
