The first half of the summer term has flown by but we've packed a lot in. It's hard to believe there's only one half term to go before the end of the school year.
We are so very proud of the way the year 6 children tackled the SATs. They have been so committed this year to improving their own learning and were so calm and cheerful throughout the week. It's not over for them yet - the writing assesments aren't finalised for a few weeks yet. After that there's a whole host of events for them to see out their time at Cranbourne.
The year 4 show gave us a fabulous alternative version of Snow White. We had so many comments about what an amazing year group they are for singing. I know that their shows in upper school wil be very special!
Year 2 had a great day out at Stansted Airport. There was a very exciting range of activities and they went to the viewing platform to watch the planes. A great day out! Year 3 went to The John Warner School to make pizzas. Not only did they create delicious pizzas, it's also an early chance to see what the inside of a secondary school looks like.
Reception's sports event was great fun. It's always lovely watching them enjoy traditional races like the egg and spoon and obstacle, alongside the less traditional space hopper race (now why isn't that an Olympic event?!). Thank you to the parents and friends who came to cheer the children on - I know the children loved seeing you and hearing the cheers and applause.
A new assistant headteacher, Mr Matt Girvan, has been appointed to the school for September. Instead of the current pattern of a headteacher, deputy head and an assistant headteacher, there will be a headteacher - Mrs Grayson of course! - and two assistant heads. Mr Carter is an assistant head already, and he will be joined by Mr Girvan.
As always the FOCs discos were very popular. It's amazing just how much noise children can make at a silent disco . . . I'm looking at you upper school! A huge thank you to FOCs for organising, and all the volunteers who made sure it ran smoothly and safely. The next big event is the Summer Fayre on June 13th - see you there!
Now a plea for kindness. I know how useful the class WhatsApp groups are for sharing information, but it's been brought to my attention that individual children are being discussed on some groups. Lots (not all) of the information is just plain wrong or exaggerated. Please remember that these are real children, who have parents and families who love them. Imagine how you would feel if it were your child, especially if you already know your child is struggling in some way. All of our children are very young, have a variety of needs, and are learning how to navigate life.
Have a great half term break - look at the weather forecast! We'll see you back on June 1st.
