Overview: Rogers Park Middle School is surrounded by nature. Students will study and then use the natural elements around our school to create beautiful works of art including chalk art, sun catchers, twig sculptures, and more. Students can begin by taking a trip to the parks around RPMS and collecting objects that they could use in a piece of art. Students can work together to create that original piece of artwork. Students can then begin to research Nature Art and famous artists that work with elements from nature. Students can then brainstorm ideas and collaborate together on different types of artwork they could make with the environment around them. Students can fundraise for frames, glue, and other items needed for this project. Students can organize a Nature Art Gallery and event for other SEVENs and members of RPMS to view.
Field Trip Opportunities: Visit local art galleries and museums for inspiration, WCSU art program, visit local parks/locations for different pieces of nature to work with.

Overview: Students will be able to use engineering and creativity to design pop-up books on a wide variety of topics. Students can make books based on the content they are learning in their academic courses, write their own stories, or adapt other books/stories into a pop-up book. Students can brainstorm potential topics for a pop-up book. Students can take inspiration from their academic classes, design/create their own story, or adapt other stories into a pop-up book. Students will research how to create pop-up books by reading articles, watching videos, and reading through pop-up books. The SEVEN team can decide whether all students are focused on a similar theme/topic or if students are going to be creating a book based on the topic of their choice. Students can collaborate on similar themes to create thematic exhibits that can be displayed at RPMS or the Danbury Library. A thematic exhibit could include pop-up books to celebrate Women's History Month in March or Hispanic Heritage Month in September/October.

Overview: Students would research how to create and then implement a puppet show! Students can find a topic or story that they are interested in and then design a performance using puppets. Students may choose a topic related to what they are learning in their other academic classes, recreate another story/movie, or write their own story/play! After a topic is chosen, students will begin to brainstorm what will be needed to complete this project. Students will determine how to get these resources including: background sets, materials to make puppets, lighting, etc. Students will then work on a script, puppet design, background/sets, etc. Students can perform this project in a multitude of ways. They can perform this project for other SEVENs, bring their show on the road to a local elementary school, invite elementary students to view their show, record their show for others to watch, create an event with multiple shows, live stream a performance, or more!
