Research Help

Have a research assignment for class? Here are some quick tips to help you get started.

Step 1: What Do You Need to Get Started?

  • Write down at least 3 questions you that you hope to answer by doing research. This will help you stay focused and save time.

Step 2: Know Where to Look

  • The internet is great, but it doesn't always have the best information. The best place to get started is to try finding answers to your questions in a Subject Database. Experts on a wide array of subjects have already found the best sites out there. Trouble is, there isn't information on all topics. Try Internet Public Library

Step 3: Try Searching the Internet

  • Look for websites that end in .gov or .edu

  • Who created the website? Look for the "About Us" link

  • When was the website published?

  • Compare the facts with other websites and/or books from the media center. Never trust just one site.
