Their service began in Harrisburg in August of 1861 as they were mustered in at Camp Curtin.
Their term of service ended at Shepherdstown on June 11,1864.
They served for three years.
The regiment was involved in the following battles:
- Their first action came at Dranesville on December 20,1861.
- They fought at the Cornfield in Antietam on September 17, 1862.

- The Second Bull Run on August 30,1862
- Battle of Gettysburg, Pa. from July 1-3 1863
- North Anna River May 23-26.
- Burnside's Mud March from January 20-24, 1863.
- They mustered out of service on June 11, 1864.
