Update on the Postponed Testing Originally Scheduled for 2/3

INSTRUCTIONS FOR IB TESTING POSTPONED FROM THURSDAY 2/3--PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

SEVERAL STUDENTS DID NOT READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO TESTING ON WEDNESDAY. IN ORDER TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL TESTING SESSION, YOU WILL WANT TO TAKE TIME TO READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

Hillcrest and WWHS IB Programme Postponed Admissions Testing--Please read carefully

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your application to the Dallas ISD IB Diploma Programmes! We are looking forward to completing admissions testing next week and this email contains important information about that process. As a reminder, the postponed admissions testing will NOT take place on-site as originally planned. The admission test that was scheduled for Thursday, February 3, has been rescheduled for TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, at 7:00 p.m. This will be the final opportunity to test for admission to the Dallas ISD IB Diploma Programmes.

Please follow these instructions to prepare for testing. We want every student to have the best chance for success. By ensuring that your Zoom account and your Google Classroom are working properly tonight, you can approach the exams stress-free.

All students should join the Admissions Testing Google Classroom via the following links BEFORE Tuesday. They will need a personal email address as the school email addresses only work on school-based platforms. Students have been working in a virtual environment during the last two years and are very familiar with this process. Students should join under their account with THEIR name so that results will match the names on the applications. Parents should not join as all information and results need to be associated with the applicant.

CODE, if needed: dy3ixax

Once the student has joined the Google Classroom, he or she should click on the “Classwork” tab and complete the "Application Questions" document. This assignment should be completed by 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8. Again, students have become very adept at this kind of assignment and should easily be able to complete this task.

At 6:45 p.m. on February 8, the student will use the Zoom link available on the Google Classroom to join the testing room. There should only be one login per student who is registered to test. Parents, please do not log on separately as this will cause us to exceed the allotted number of Zoom participants.

This is the Zoom link: https://dallasisd.zoom.us/j/6957524943

Testing will begin promptly at 7:000 p.m. We will start with writing (30 minutes) and then move to the math portion (30 minutes). Since we will be testing remotely, students will have access to calculators and other tools on their computers. However, everyone will be held to strict time limits. A countdown clock will be posted and students will need to submit each exam at the end of the time limit. It is expected that no one will assist the student with answers or with prompting during the exam. The postponed exam will contain completely different questions than the exam on February 2 but both exams will be of the same rigor.

A few notes about academic integrity during this process:

  • Our goal during the admissions process is to be able to assess the best fit for all students and to know how to best support students who ultimately come into the IB Programme. Students admitted to the IB Programme will sign an Academic Honesty Policy indicating their intention to adhere to the academic expectations associated with the Programme. Our focus on this mission begins with the admissions testing process.

  • Applicants, if you have thoughts about cheating on this admissions process, this is not the program for you. Please consider other options. IB is a highly rigorous course of study and is focused on the development of the whole student. We would never choose to admit a student who did not feel confident in completing an admissions exam using his or her own skills, knowledge, and abilities. Any student caught or suspected of cheating will automatically be eliminated from admissions consideration.

  • Parents, if you are inclined to assist your child with these exams, this is not the program for your child. Please consider other options. Education, while a partnership, is ultimately the responsibility of the learner. If your child is not ready to be accountable for his/her performance, then the IB Diploma Programme is not an appropriate choice for high school pursuits.

  • Students' phones should be put away during the exams.

  • During the entire Zoom session, the student should be fully visible on the screen. Cameras must remain on for the duration of testing, no exceptions.

  • The name on the screen for Zoom MUST match the name of the applicant who is applying. If we are not able to match your Zoom name with the name on your application, your results will not be considered.

Video should be on for the duration of the Zoom and the students' full faces should be visible onscreen at all times.

Once testing is completed, all of the applications will be reviewed and admissions decisions will be communicated through the Dallas Choice Schools portal according to the district timeline. Students will show as "in processing" until their materials have been reviewed and they are deemed eligible or ineligible for admission.

Thank you again for your consideration of the Hillcrest and Woodrow Wilson IB Programmes. We are so excited about welcoming our newest students into the program and we are so honored to be among your choices for your child's high school education.

Below are some FAQs about the IB Testing:

Q: We can't log in to Google Classroom.

A: You must use a personal email account. It cannot be a school email. Sometimes it doesn't allow anything but a Gmail. So you may need to create a new email for that reason.

Q: The questionnaire won't load.

A: The questionnaire is found in the Classwork tab in Google Classroom. It works.

Q: How do I get into the test?

A: Here is the Zoom link: https://dallasisd.zoom.us/j/6957524943

Only students who are testing should log in to Zoom to ensure there is space for all applicants to join.

Q: I'm applying to Hillcrest IB. Which Zoom should I attend?

A: Any applicant can use either Zoom. The tests are the same and both IB Coordinators will receive the results.

Please remember that by 6:30 on February 8, you need to have completed the assignment on Google Classroom in the Classwork tab. You also need to have verified that your Google Classroom and your Zoom works. Please do not wait until test time to try to check these things. Login for testing by 6:45 p.m. Remember that cameras must be on for the entire zoom and your face must be visible. Please refer to the previous email for all other instructions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ritchie, WWHS IB Coordinator

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your application to the Dallas ISD IB Diploma Programmes! We are looking forward to admissions testing this week and this email contains important information about that process. As a reminder, the admissions testing will NOT take place on-site as originally planned. Due to the predicted inclement weather, we will be conducting the assessments via Zoom at the pre-selected time--6:00 p.m. on February 2 or 7:00 p.m. on February 3. Due to Zoom participant limits, students should attend testing on the date that was chosen during the original sign-up process. Since admissions testing is now virtual, we will proceed with testing on both nights, as scheduled.

Please follow these instructions to prepare for testing. We want every student to have the best chance for success. By ensuring that your Zoom account and your Google Classroom are working properly tonight, you can approach the exams stress-free.

Again, students have become very adept at these tasks and should easily be able to complete this task.

  2. Fifteen minutes prior to the start of the student's registered exam time, the student will use the Zoom link available on the Google Classroom to join the testing room.
