Texas Success Initiative Assessment
What Is The TSI Assessment?
The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative enacted by the Texas State Legislature and designed to determine a student's readiness for college-level coursework in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.
There are two TSIA's, Math and Reading/Writing. The Reading and Writing portion of the test are tested at the same time. Passing both the Math and Reading/Writing TSI Assessment is required for enrollment in college level courses.

Who Takes The TSI Assessment?
All BTech Students must take and pass the TSI Assessment.
9th Graders need to have passed the Reading/Writing Assessment before their 10th grade year
10th Graders need to have passed both the Math Assessment and the Reading/Writing Assessment by their 11th grade year.

What Are Passing Scores?
Students scoring at or above the cut scores are considered “college ready” and eligible to enroll in any entry level college course (for example, English composition, history, government, or college algebra). Some college level courses require passing scores in more than one area.
Reading/Writing
945+ AND Essay Score of 5 - 8
>945 AND ELAR Diagnostic Level 5 - 6 AND Essay Score 5 - 8
Math
950+
>950 Math Diagnostic Level of 6

What Happens If I Fail?
Students have multiple attempts at each test. However, it is extremely important that they pass each test by their Junior year. Not passing the assessment by the correct semester could impact your enrollment in BTech. Utilize every test opportunity as much as possible.
