Scholarships by Month

The scholarships below are recommended for Conrad students but are NOT the only scholarships available. Scholarships are also listed in Naviance and can be found through individual colleges, businesses, private and/or non-profit organizations, and more! The scholarship list will be updated as applications open and become available.

Scholarship Tips

Read eligibility and requirements carefully. Apply for scholarships you are eligible for and that you can complete!
Request transcripts early. You must request them in the Attendance Office using the blue form.
Request letters of recommendation early (2 weeks advance notice). Provide your recommender(s) with a copy of the application or a list of what must be covered in the letter if available. Some recommendations need to be completed online. Be sure to accurately input your recommender's information in these cases.
Watch deadlines. Make a calendar of upcoming dates. Generally, scholarship committees do not accept incomplete or late applications.
Have an adult on campus (an English teacher, someone in the Go Center, etc.) look over your application and essay(s). View feedback in a positive manner. We all support you and want you to submit the very best application possible!

Ongoing Scholarships

Raise.me (website: www.raise.me)

Raise.me offers students the opportunity to earn "micro-scholarships" to specific colleges that participate in the raise.me program. Students create a raise.me account for free, select colleges of interest, and enter required information. Colleges give small amounts for different information entered by the student (types of classes, grades earned, community service, extracurricular activities, honors/awards, etc.) and amounts increase as more information is entered. Raise.me only works if students continuously update their information. Students can begin entering information as early as 9th grade.

Scholarships due in September

The Gates Scholarship will provide 300 student leaders with full scholarships at the college of their choice. The application occurs in waves: only semifinalists will write the essays and only finalists will participate in interviews. Make sure your initial application is on point so that you can make it to the semifinalist and finalist rounds!

There are 6 categories you can apply for that reflect your current/future interest. You can submit applications in as many as you want. They will choose three winners per category for the Dallas region. If you choose to submit in more than one category, you can use MOST of the same short answer/essay responses. However, some would need to be tailored to the specific category.

The six categories include: Business, Community Service, Education, Media and Entertainment, Healthcare and Science, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

- Essay- 800-1000 words: What is your ONE BIG DREAM AFTER you graduate from college? What do you believe the greatest barriers to achieving your dream are? What entrepreneurial character traits will help you overcome these barriers to leave your mark on the world?
- Resume- Must include: Extracurricular Activities, Community Service (include number of hours per week and how many days/months/years you participated in the activity), Awards, Honors, and Leadership Roles, Work Experience (include length of employment and number of hours/week worked)
- 2 Recommendations- In sealed envelopes with signature across the back. 1 should be from a faculty member at school (teacher, counselor, etc), 1 should be from someone outside the school environment. You must use the form provided.

Harvey Martin Dream Foundation Scholarship

- *Attendance Report- It doesn't say you need it, but its on the eligibility. So I'd include it.
- *Transcript- It doesn't say you need it, but it asks for GPA and test scores. You decide! Or call the number on the application and ask!

Burger King Scholarship (Link: https://www.scholarsapply.org/burgerkingscholars/)

Application Deadline: ASAP! They accept either the first 50,000 applications or it is due by December 15. If they reach 50,000 earlier, it closes.

- Recommendation- 1 required, extra optional. You must submit the person's information electronically, then a request will be emailed. Your recommender(s) should be a teacher, coach, administrator, or mentor who is able to attest to how you have demonstrated great character and leadership in sports, academics, and community work. If you choose a second recommender, this person should be wel- informed about your social action projects and educational goals. This should be someone who knows you well, but more importantly can attest to the actions you have taken to better and strengthen your community, your team, and/or your school. Please ask your recommender to speak to their thoughts about the quality of your work, your impact, and your collaboration with the community.
- 2 Essays, 300-500 words each. 1) Sports teach important lessons in leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship. How have you embodied these qualities on your team and in your community? (Your community could include: your volunteer experiences, any leadership roles at your school or youth groups, and/or any other projects or efforts you think we should really know about!). 2) Describe a defining moment in your life that has helped to shape your dreams and plans for the future. (Be sure to describe your academic/career goals and any challenges you’ve faced or are currently facing and how they have shaped your aspiration).

- 1 Letter of Recommendation. You must submit a request. You need your recommender's name and email address
- Essays: 500 words each. 1) Please describe your short-term and long-term personal and education/career goals and what has helped to shape your goals. What specific steps will you take to reach your personal/education/career goals? 2) Please describe how you plan to give back to your community and help fulfill the needs of your community after you've completed your education. How would your plan impact not only your immediate community, but also a broader one? 3) Please describe any challenges you have faced personally, financially or academically that you have had to overcome. How have you dealt with the challenges you have faced? How have these barriers or your success in overcoming challenges affected your goals and personal character? If you do not have any extracurricular/community service involvement, you may use this space to tell us why.

- Short Answer questions (100 words or less each) 1) What has most influenced your professional or career aspirations for the future? 2) Describe an influential person in your life, and how he/she has helped change your view of yourself and the world. You may use examples from your family life, community service or extracurricular activities. 3) Some believe that a person of character demonstrates the following six qualities: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Pick one of these qualities, describe the value of this quality, and, most importantly, explain how you have exemplified this trait. 4) Describe a time when you were in a leadership position. What obstacles did you have to overcome? How did you overcome those obstacles to obtain your goal?
- Optional: Video Essay: You may provide a short video of no more than two (2) minutes telling the selection committee about you and why you feel you deserve this scholarship. If you choose to submit a video essay, the video will only be used for purposes of your scholarship application. The video will not be used for any other purpose. You will not be penalized if you choose not to include a video essay.
- Optional: Special Circumstances Essay (300 words or less): Provide the Scholarship Selection Committee with any additional information you wish to share about your family's financial situation and special circumstances.
- 1 Recommendation- you can ask for this in advance. You will need to go to the recommendation section of the application and put your recommender's contact information. Click "Create Request" then add the person's email address and name.

YMCA Scholarship Application Link: YMCA Application

Eligibility
- 12th grade students in the Dallas area
- It says "involved in YMCA." However, I do know students who have received this who were not able to be involved in YMCA.
Requirements
- Completed application with signatures
- Must be able to attend an interview on either Saturday, Feb. 24 or Saturday, March 3.

- Copies of parents' most recent tax return (black out social security numbers)

Prompts: 1) Describe who you are (not what activities you have participated in) and relate it back to why you are the one who should receive one of the Young Men's Christian Association Scholarships. 2) Describe how the YMCA has influenced your life or the life of someone you know.

- Minimum SAT of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT score of 21

- 4 short essays (2500 characters with spaces each) 1) Jackie Robinson is best known for the courageous role he played in the integration of Major League Baseball in 1947. In fact, Jackie Robinson exhibited courage and humanitarianism on many fronts overcoming unforeseen barriers and challenges both on and off the field. What obstacles have you overcome that speak to what others can learn from studying the life of Jackie Robinson? 2) What do you consider to be the most pressing global issue today and why? 3) Jackie Robinson embodied his statement "A life is not important except in its impact on other lives." Describe a situation where you took a leadership role, including why you led the project and how you were effective in helping and leading others. 4) Write an essay which conveys to the reader a sense of who you are. Possible topics may include experiences that have shaped your life, the circumstances of your upbringing or the way you see the world.

Information: Scholarshot works to find the best fit for each student. For some students, scholarships for community college are offered first. For other students, 4 year university scholarships are offered. Regardless of where a student starts, Scholarshot pledges to assist the student over 4 years as long as certain requirements are met.

Requirements
- 2 Letters of Recommendation (at least one from a current teacher or administrator)
- Essay- Typed, Double-Spaced, 1-3 pages. Topic: What obstacle have you had to overcome in order to complete your high school education? Convey how educational equality has assisted you in achieving academic and personal growth.

- To apply, you must first complete the general application and the high school application. Then, you will be given the opportunity to apply for this specific scholarship.
- General Application Requirements: 1) Two recommendations from teachers, coaches, or employers. Give their name and email address so the system will send them an email. 2) General Essay of 500-750 words: Describe the challenges you have overcome and the goals you hope to achieve by pursuing additional education. - Essay- up to 5000 characters with spaces: Describe your individual character and accomplishments, your career and educational goals, your hobbies and interests, and any obstacles (such as illnesses or family problems) that you've had to overcome in order to pursue your education. Also describe someone (not a family member) who inspires you and explain why.
- Community Service/Work Experience- You are given a space to describe these. For community service, describe and include hours per week spent on the activity and how many days, months or years you participated in the activity. For work experience, describe and include your length of employment, the number of hours you worked, and how much you earned.
- Transcript- must use their special tool to compose an email to your counselor, who will receive a link to send your transcript
