The Reading Writing Workshop Model

During the Reading Writing Workshop, grade seven students begin their entry into the literary world with a poetry share or a read-aloud. After a mini-lesson on a specific writing craft move or reading strategy, students move into their independent writing or reading time. As writers and readers, they work towards growing their skills, applying what they have learned on a piece of chosen text. Students are encouraged to choose topics which are meaningful to them, which speaks to them. Likewise in reading, students choose books which interest them. Writers and readers end the workshop by sharing their thinking and their process for the day.

During independent work time, students meet with Ms. Truong on an individual basis to confer about a particular piece of work.
