In the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), learning how to learn is just as important as the subject matter itself. Our quarterly homeroom projects are explicitly designed to help students develop and practice Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills.

These projects move beyond standard memorization, challenging students to grow across five core skill categories:

• Communication: Sharing ideas clearly, actively listening, and utilizing digital media effectively.

• Social & Collaboration: Working productively in diverse teams, resolving conflicts, and building consensus.

• Self-Management: Managing time effectively, meeting project milestones, and practicing emotional resilience.

• Research: Finding, interpreting, verifying, and referencing valid information sources.

• Thinking: Applying critical thinking to solve complex problems and creative thinking to generate unique project ideas.

By focusing on these transferable skills every quarter, our magnet students build the academic habits and emotional tools necessary to succeed in high school, college, and future careers.
