All other AP Exams will be given in person. If for medical reasons you need to take the test digitally, please contact ascott@d94.org
Digital AP Exams will be taken at home. However, if you have issues with connectivity, space or other concerns and would prefer to take the exam at school, please fill out this form.
On the day of the digital AP test, students will be excused from attending school. Students should work with their teachers to make up for work missed.
Registration: You can’t take a digital AP Exam unless your AP coordinator has assigned you to that exam. Digital AP exams at WEGO are being offered for (AP Eng Lit, AP Eng Lang, AP Macro, AP Bio, AP Envi Sci, AP US History, AP World History, AP Human Geo) all other exams will be in person.
Testing locations: Digital AP Exams will be taken at home. However, if you have issues with connectivity, space or other concerns and would prefer to take the exam at school, please fill out this form.
Length: Digital AP Exams will be as long as paper and pencil exams and test the same knowledge and skills. Most exams have multiple-choice and free-response sections. You won’t need to study or prepare differently to be successful on a digital exam. There are minor differences with paper and pencil exams. For example, because it’s not feasible to have you draw graphs and figures online this year, for some exams you’ll be asked to answer questions about provided graphs and figures. See the Exam pages on AP Students for further details.
Exam Dates: Digital exams are available for specific AP subjects in Administration 2 and 3. The digital format is the only exam format available for those subjects on those dates. Please see the Home Page for exam dates for WEGO.
Start Times: Exams start automatically at the same time worldwide, at 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT). For exams with 2 sections, the second section starts automatically, after the scheduled break. The exam timing is controlled by the digital testing app, not by you, the AP coordinator, or a proctor.
Devices: Exams are taken on desktop and laptop computers (Mac, Windows, school-managed Chromebooks). The computer must have a power cord. Because digital AP Exams require typed free responses, they can’t be taken on smartphones.
Internet: An internet connection is required, but you’ll be able to continue testing even if your connection drops momentarily.
Exam Security: Digital AP Exams have been designed with security in mind, so you can take exams at home if you can’t test at your school. You won’t be able to return to questions you’ve answered or move back and forth between questions you haven’t answered.
Readiness Steps: You must complete a few simple steps before exam day to confirm that your testing computer is ready for the exam. Please note that for step 1, the 2021 Digital AP Exams App has already been pushed out to your Chromebook and can be found by selecting the Apps button on the lower left of your screen before you sign in.
Practice: Once you log into the app, you’ll be able to practice with an exam app demo. You’ll get to try each type of multiple-choice and free-response question you’ll see on exam day and practice using the tools and features in the app.
Accommodations: If you’ve been approved for testing accommodations by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities office, your accommodations can be used on digital AP Exams. You won’t need to reapply for accommodations to take digital AP Exams.
The slide deck includes information on exam setup, navigating through the exam, using embedded tools and information and exam submission.
2021 digital AP Exams have been designed with security in mind, so students can take exams at home if they are unable to test at their school. Digital exams administered at home or in school will:
Not allow students to return to answered questions or move back-and-forth between unanswered questions
Begin at the same time worldwide with synchronous section start times
Include security features to prevent students from collaborating, accessing unauthorized aids, or attempting to have someone else test for them
Textbooks and notes are not permitted for digital exams administered in school. We understand students taking digital exams at home may have access to these materials. To prevent students from gaining an unfair advantage, digital exams will:
Not include questions that can be answered with internet searches, textbooks, notes, study guides, or similar material
Be reviewed with plagiarism detection software
Be reviewed with post-exam analyses to identify collaboration or use of unauthorized aids
Exam violations on any AP Exam—paper or digital—will result in a score cancellation and additional consequences as warranted.
The ability to request a makeup digital exam will be available in My AP beginning May 18 (the first day that digital exams begin to be administered).
You may submit a request for a makeup digital exam if:
An issue occurred during your digital exam that impacted your ability to test.
An unexpected situation prevented you from being able to take your digital exam on the scheduled exam date.
You didn’t start check in before the official start time for the exam and were therefore unable to test.
Your exam responses were unable to successfully submit to the AP Program after repeated attempts to submit.
Deadline: If you want to request a makeup digital exam, you must do so through My AP as soon as you know you need a makeup digital exam. Requests must be submitted no later than 7 calendar days before the makeup digital exam you want to take.
Note the following:
Important: All makeup digital exam requests that are approved as of the deadline of 11:59 p.m. ET 7 calendar days before a scheduled digital exam date will be processed. Requests that are pending as of this deadline will be automatically approved and processed.
Once makeup exam requests are approved and processed, your previous exam won’t be scored, even if you don’t ultimately sit for the makeup exam.
If you know in advance that you won’t be able to test on their scheduled exam date, don’t submit a makeup request through My AP. Instead talk to your AP coordinator about whether a later exam date is available.
Digital makeup exam requests are subject to review by your AP coordinator.
Makeup digital exam requests can only be submitted if you were registered for a digital exam. If you want to know about makeup exam options for a paper AP Exam or an AP Chinese or AP Japanese Exam, talk your AP coordinator to find out what options might be available.
