Happy New Year, my fellow scholars! It is a new year and it has arrived with new opportunities, obstacles, and rewards. This month, we will be looking into one of many pre-college programs out there; it may be a bit late to start an application and perfect it, depending on one's particular set of skills, but I believe all of you can make the best of an attempt and perhaps gain admission. Brown Pre-College usually offers various courses stretching over various areas of study, but due to the current pandemic, only the Summer@Brown and Leadership Institute programs are open for applications with limits. Each program has its specific information that will be reviewed below shortly and of course, I will go over the separate applications for program scholarships.
The Summer@Brown program will be offering the choices of virtual and in person course sessions this year for two-hundred plus courses (including, but not limited to Biology and the Natural Sciences, Economics and Legal Studies, Literature, Writing and Communications). This program is for students 15-18 that will be completing any high school grade by the summer of 2021. It will still be a highly immersive experience aimed to attract students who indulge in expanding their knowledge-- even with the current parameters that have been placed, thanks to the COVID pandemic. Depending on which course session one chooses, the course could be in the time range of 2 - 6 weeks long and take place on Brown's University campus in Providence, Rhode Island or Online through Canvas, Brown’s Learning Management System (again depending on which course is chosen). Taking part of such a prestigious program is a golden opportunity, which has many benefits and will bring an ideal experience that will prepare one for college, without the constraint of conventional grades.

Eligibility for this program is exactly the same as it is for the Summer@Brown program but only consists of a 4-week online program from June 21 - August 18. This program is for young and ambitious leaders who are willing to advocate for changes that they want to see. It will involve a self paced learning environment that will occasionally mix in with workshops that require teamwork. This program is perfect for aspiring leaders and current leaders who want to further develop their skills.

To be eligible for either scholarship, one must be accepted into a Brown Pre-College Program and be in financial need and, as always, it is best to apply as soon as possible. The Sibley Scholarship is awarded by financial need alone, while the Partner Scholarship is a bit more complex because one must be nominated by a partner organization of the Brown Pre-College Programs and so my knowledge of it is limited. I have applied to this program and their scholarships before and received acceptance on both applications, and can provide some insight and advice if needed. Please remember to use the form at the bottom of the page to provide some feedback and, until next time, work hard and good luck!
