Zach Swingle Award
Zach Swingle started off like many high school students; he was involved, energetic, well-liked, and the all-around “great kid.” He was a football player, Student Council member, and an student excelling in college-bound classes. However, Zach was ripped tragically from this world in a fatal car accident in September 2005. Although this was undoubtedly one of the most challenging events that Zach’s family and the Pekin High School community had to face, Zach was lucky to have lived everyday of his life to the fullest. With his outgoing attitude, integrity, passion to serve others, and constant smile regardless of the task, Zach etched his name into the hearts and memories of everyone he met.
The Zach Swingle Award is one that embodies those characteristics previously stated. The nominees should have an innocent and special love for life. A nominee should possess the qualities that were most visible in Zach: friendliness, integrity, positive and energetic leadership, devotion to family and friends, and academic achievement. Although matching Zach’s humor will be difficult, a nominee should also possess a great sense of humor that is not forced, but definitely lights up a room.
Zach Swingle will always be remembered as a teenager with an outstanding character; therefore, this award is named in his memory.
This award generally goes to a first or second year Student Council member .
