Hi! My name is Lauren Kmiecik and I am an Art Teacher here at Emerson Middle School. I am so glad to be a part of the Emerson community, working with staff, students and parents to create an exciting learning experience for everyone here.
I grew up in Elmwood Park, IL and currently reside in Itasca. I take advantage of all the cultural attractions that the city offers by attending plays and going to the art museums, being impressed with all types of art from all over the world. I knew from a very early age that art would be a big part of my life. I was constantly creating, in fact, I would never let my mom throw away anything because I would make something out of it.
I attended Columbia College in Chicago and received my Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. I worked as a Graphic Designer for many years before returning to school and receiving my Master's degree in Art Education from Northern Illinois University. I then taught art at the elementary level for 3 years in Crystal Lake and Hinsdale and at the college level for 10 years for at Illinois Institute of Art in Schaumburg and for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online.
I am married to a wonderful husband, Mick, and have been blessed with three children. Olivia is 14 years old, Lia is 11 years old and Nicky is 6 years old.
I enjoy many things, including spending lots of time with friends and family, running, boating, and of course creating my own art whenever I can!
