Dear families,
Thank you to our veterans for their dedication and service! We owe them so much. In the words of John F. Kennedy, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them."
It is refreshing to see the students becoming so comfortable and confident in themselves, and willing to share pieces of who they are with their classmates. The more they practice reading, writing, and socializing with each other, the better readers, writers, and friends they become. The best way to foster a love for reading is by allowing your child to choose their own books and reading with them without any interruptions. Continue reading daily at home! Remember, libraries are great places for your student to do some fun reading!
In Literacy, students studied the letters n and d by identifying words and pictures that began with the /n/ and /d/ sound. Students learned the sight words: to and am. In Math, students are comparing quantities using words such as more than, fewer than, and same as. Students also played many games to help solidify this concept. Next week, we will begin focusing on the correct formation of the numbers 1-5.

Dear families,
It was pleasure meeting with you this week for parent/teacher conferences. I enjoyed talking about your student's progress and goals for the school year. Students really are working hard and are settling well into the school routine. Kindergarten is definitely where the magic begins! I am so proud of them.
In Literacy, students studied the /h/ sound by identifying words and pictures that began with the /h/ sound. Students learned the sight word: my and by. In Math, students are studying the numbers 0-10. They are focusing on counting items and showing that amount using their fingers, 5-frames, and counters. Students are also learning to compare quantities using words such as more and fewer. Next week, we will begin learning the correct formation of the numbers.

Dear families,
What an exciting day the students had yesterday. None of it would have been possible without our fantastic room parents and parent volunteers. I cannot thank you and the PTO enough for pulling off such a fun Halloween party for the students. They were smiling, laughing, and just being kids. I hope all of the parents enjoyed our Halloween parade - the students were happy to see your faces.
In Literacy, students learned about syllables. A syllable is a single unit of speech that typically contains one vowel sound, making it a fundamental "building block" of words. They help break down words for easier pronunciation and are often identified by "beats" or by dividing words into parts. For example, the word "apple" has two syllables: "ap" and "ple". Students also studied the /l/ sound by identifying words and pictures that began with the /l/ sound.
In Math, students are studying the numbers 0-10. They are focusing on counting items and showing that amount using their fingers, 5-frames, and counters. Students are also learning to compare quantities using words such as more and fewer.

Dear families,
We have been in school for 40 days. It is so nice to see the students adjusting to the routine and flow of the classroom. Everyone knows exactly what to and when to do it. So much so that when there is a sub in the classroom, students fall in line and basically run the classroom themselves. Consistency is now the name of the our game. They are learning so much about what it looks like to be independent and in charge of their own learning and I am looking forward to watching their continued growth.
In Literacy, students studied the /t/, /b/, /s/, and /a/ sounds by identifying words and pictures that begin with the /t/, /b/, /s/, and /a/ sounds. Use these letters to make 3-letter words and see if your student can read them. With these letters, you can make words like: sat, mat, bat, tab, at, bam, tam, and, sam. We will continue to study all letters and sounds and manipulate them as we continue reading and sounding out 3-letter words also known as CVC words.
In Math, students are studying the numbers 0-10. They are focusing on counting items and showing that amount using their fingers, 5-frames, and counters. In Writing, students are working on labeling pictures. Next week, we will begin making connections and drawing pictures to tell stories. Finally, Mrs. Ryno, our school social worker, spoke to the class about Personal Body Safety. She discussed: safe and unsafe touches, good and bad secrets, and safe people at home and at school that we feel comfortable talking to. She also discussed The Touching Rule, which states that nobody should touch your private body parts, except to keep you clean and healthy. Students learned what they should do if anyone tries to break a touching rule:
Step 1: Say “no”
Step 2: Get Away
Step 3: Tell Someone.

Dear families,
We had such a busy short week. The month of October is flying by. Look up and take in the fall colors! The tree leaves are starting to change colors more and more. I hope you and your families are enjoying all that fall has to offer, so far.
In Literacy, students studied the /m/ sound by identifying words that begin with the /m/ sound. We will continue to study the letters and sounds and manipulate them as we begin to read and sound out 3-letter words. In Math, students studied the numbers 0-5. They sorted them based on if they were made out of lines only, curves only, or both. They practiced forming numbers with various classroom materials such as wikistixx, playdoh, and base ten blocks. Next week, we will begin working in the second math program we are piloting - Illustrative Math. The unit in the new pilot will continue with numbers up to 10. In Writing, students participated in another instructed drawing, drawing a vampire. Our instructed drawings always turn out so beautifully. Finally, yesterday, students enjoyed a day of play. Each kindergarten classroom was set up for imaginative play, art, building, or magnetics. They all had such a good time.

Fall is here and I cannot be more excited. This is my favorite time of the year. I am all about wearing sweaters, hoodies, scarves, boots, and seeing the leaves change colors. With the change is temperature, please make sure students are dressed appropriately. I tend to let the students self-regulate when it comes to wearing jackets outside for recess.
In Literacy, students finished up the letters in the alphabet focusing on the following letters and letter sounds: Ss, Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy and Zz. We will continue to study the letters and sounds and manipulate them as we begin to read and sound out 3-letter words. The sight word learned this week was: like. In Math, students completed, reviewed, and took their first unit quiz. We also began Unit 2 - Numbers to 5. We will count and practice writing numbers to 5 and beyond. Dear families,
Happy October! I hope you are enjoying the weekend. We have officially hit the six weeks of school mark. Students are settling well into our classroom routines. They are kind, supportive, and helpful with their classmates.
In Literacy, students focused on learning the following letters and letter sounds: Mm, Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq, and Rr. The sight word learned this week was: see. In Math, students sorted and counting objects in many different ways. In Writing, students made a flyer all about themselves and will present them next week.

Dear families,
Thank you for your book orders through Scholastic Book Club. All orders have been placed and will be delivered on Monday. Because of your order, we were able to add several new books to our classroom library. Students will be excited to read the new additions. The next scholastic order will be placed in November.
This week, students began settling into our center routine. During center time, students indulge in self-directed, independent work that allows them to practice various skills learned in the classroom as well as work on fine motor skills. Students are working hard to understand that this time is their individual learning time and that they should use this wisely. Ask your student what their favorite part of centers is and what the expectations are during center time.
In Literacy, students focused on learning the following letters and letter sounds: Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, and Ll. Because we have learned almost half of the letters of the alphabet, students were able to begin practicing blending sounds together to read 3-letter real and non-sense words such as cab, dab, hib, gib, etc. In Math, students compared length and height using words such as longer, taller, and shorter and took their first lesson quiz. Next week, we will begin sorting and counting objects.
In Writing, students completed their first directed drawing. Directed drawing is a step-by-step process through which students draw something. The teacher guides students through each step, showing them exactly where and how to make the next line or mark on their drawing. This can help them improve their dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Directed drawings can also teach children the importance of following instructions.

Dear families,
I hope you are enjoying this much needed weekend. Students were tired this week. They are beginning to feel the pace of their days and are working on settling into their new daily routines at home and at school. The are figuring out that this is their "new normal".
We begin our days together with center time. Center time at school is something we build upon each week. Students are learning how to make good choices during center time as well how to keep challenging themselves when they have completed an activity.
In Literacy, students learned that there 1 way to read a book - reading the pictures. We practiced reading the pictures of various books in the classroom library. They learned the following letters and letter sounds: Aa, Bb, Cc, & Dd. Students learned the following high frequency word: the. In Writing, for handwriting, students practiced the letters A and B by doodling a tipi tent and a butterfly. In Math, we launched Unit 1 - Position, Length, Height, & Sorting. Students practiced describing where items were using the words above, below, behind, beside, next to, and in front of. Next week, students will begin describing and comparing length and height.

Dear families,
And just like that - we have finished our second week of school. We are taking our time easing into the kindergarten curriculum. The goal is for students to be successful in all aspects of school. We start slow, so we can move fast.
This week, we were BUSY with safety drills, beginning of the year assessments, and following the routines that we learned from the first week, even adding on a few extras. Students have done a great job coming into the classroom ready to learn. They practiced scissor skills, they played in the kitchen, built with blocks and legos, they created with dot paint, and practiced writing their names in different ways. Students are also learning about what our classroom rules look, feel, and sound like.
Next week, we will spend time getting to know each other through various activities. If you have not done so, please be sure to complete the "Meet Your Classmate" slideshow. We will be going through the slides next week - beginning Monday. Here are the links for each class: Meet your Classmates (AM) OR Meet your Classmates (PM). Next week, we will also begin Unit 1 of the first pilot math program as well as Module 1 of our literacy program.
Check out this week's photos by hovering over the classroom photos tab above.

Dear families,
Students had a smooth and fun first week of Kindergarten! Students worked on getting to know their teachers, their school, and each other. They learned how to use their supplies and learned a few new classroom routines. They learned what to do with their finished work and a little bit about how our school day will flow. Students were very excited to go to gym and play on the playground. I'd say the first five days of school were a HUGE success.
Next week, we will continue to learn about the expectations, procedures, and routines of the classroom and school. We will focus on getting to know each other more, and discuss more about what our classroom rules look, feel, and sound like.
Check out this week's photos here or you can click on the classroom photos tab above.

August 15, 2025
Dear families,
Welcome you to our classroom family. Below, I have attached the kindergarten school supply list along with other back to school information. If you have not purchased school supplies yet, please do not purchase pencils, dry erase markers, dry erase boards, gallon and sandwich sized ziploc bags, or baby wipes. We have plenty of these specific items in the classroom to start the school year.
Also linked below are two surveys for you to complete and a Meet your Classmates slideshow. Please take some time to complete the slideshow with your child. Click the AM or PM link below, find your child's name, insert a photo of your child, and include four of their favorite things listed. Instructions for inserting photos can be found on the second slide.
On the first day of school, please bring a framed FAMILY photo to display in the classroom (4X6 or 5X7). Photos and frames will be returned at the end of the school year.
