Approach: TCI focuses on student-centered, activity-based lessons that incorporate the following 6 multiple intelligence strategies in the development of key social studies concepts:

Visual Discovery - viewing, touching & interpreting compelling images

Skill Builder - reading maps, categorizing information, analyzing artifacts & primary resources, comparing & contrasting ideas

Experiential Exercise - participation in memorable experiences by acting out events & making connections to their feelings during the exercise & a social studies concept

Writing for Understanding - begins with role-playing, discussing complex issues, acting out key events or debating, which all act as a spring board for writing about what they have learned

Response Group - Working in small groups, students discuss critical thinking questions

Problem Solving Group Work - Creating & presenting projects designed by a small group where each group member has a special role & contribution
