Weeks ago during a district-wide choir event, a seasoned choir teacher, Mr.Betts, started something that quite literally echoed through the halls of EMS.
“It started during Mr.Betts’ bathroom break,” says Mr. Moreno. His achy bones took him from the piano and down the dark passageways of EMS, closer and closer to the gym. Mr. Mantlo had already left but forgot to lock the cage. Mr. Betts hobbled his way to the cage and when he finally got there he brought his phone and connected it to the speakers in the gym(it should be noted that it took him many tries and multiple “Back in my days” to actually get it on). He then went to his Spotify and pressed on one of Lizzo’s most popular songs, “About D*** Time”. He set off on the long journey to the middle of the gym and, finally reaching his destination, started playing the song. His hips started swinging from side to side, his knees started creaking, echoing throughout the halls of EMS. And suddenly it began.
It seems that soon after that, all of the choirs from around the district joined in. And even after that hundreds of neighbors, students, and teachers all joined together in the dance. At the very end of it, someone yelled a song for him to play and he immediately started shouting at them, using multiple cuss words, and saying “I don’t go to your job and tell you how to do it!” This episode went on for about 15 minutes before he experienced the pain brought on by his hip fracture. He was taken to the hospital, where he had to undergo hip surgery, and is still recovering.
“It was absolutely terrifying to see so many middle schoolers following an old choir teacher, why won’t they listen and follow me like that? Like what the H***, I honestly had a heart attack,” says Mrs. Daigle, who is still recuperating, with her doctor, Hector Sovaros M.D who also had a small heart episode(from dancing so hard). Almost every staff member joined in(except Mr. Roanoke), and many students joined in on it. Overall there were about 3,000 participants, and Mr. Betts is expected to recover from his hip fracture (caused by swinging his hips over 2000 times in an hour though he kept dancing for some reason) in about 20 years.
