East Cheetah Huxley Peak “straight up sent it.” At least that’s the description given by the EMS adjunct science teacher known to all as Chuck. “We had this all planned out, for six years my science teachers have told me that flight was not humanly possible and it was my intent to prove them all wrong. I would’ve never thought it was possible without Chuck’s guidance. Also, I learned that all those other science teachers were indeed correct.”
Plans for this experiment began last year when Huxley expressed his interest in flight to Mr. Gil. “I really didn’t know a whole lot about human flight, but I had a friend who did, and that’s when I invited Chuck to join the discussion.”
“I was totally stoked to hear about Hux. I started referring to him as ‘Hucks’ (chuckle)’ cause that’s what he does (chuckle) yaknowwutimean bruh?”
Chuck and Hucks got together once a week to plan the experiment out. The chosen mechanism for flight was a mountain bike, and necessary components included rocket speed and fearlessness. “I just told him to send it, yaknow (chuckle), it was gonna be so rad.”
On the fateful day Chuck and Hucks found their way out to the North Fruita Desert, the send-it capital of the Mountain Biking world. After descending most of a favorite trail known as “Pumps, Bumps, and Rollers” Hucks reached the segment known as “Pedal (darnit).” “I didn’t want to pedal, I wanted to fly.” “It was so sick,” added Chuck.” Unfortunately after approximately 10 seconds of sustained flight Hucks encountered a confused vulture who simply wasn’t having it. Conflict ensued, and as Chuck put it, “it was most non-truimphant. That (expletive) bird ruined everything. It was all vibes until that bird came along. And then it got gnarly.”
Unfortunately Hucks sustained serious injuries on his premature return to Earth. But he’s back with us at East and we’re happy to have him. When you see him in the halls give him a nod and a Shaka (thumb and pinky gesture).
