Discounted Water Filters, or DWF are advertised on all folders handed out at East Middle School. Many students began purchasing these water filters at the beginning of the year, but the trend quickly faded, so The Shallot decided to research the matter further.
After watching the numbers for quite a while, The Shallot noticed how they seemed to go up in certain schools, but drop within a week of the purchases. For a while, students were actually carrying these filters around with them, and teachers began keeping them in their rooms. As the demand grew, DWF began ordering more filters. With so many questions circulating about these filters, one of the workers of The Shallot decided it was time to get some answers.
Upon an interview with one of the students who purchased these so-called “affordable water filters,” we realized that they were not, in fact, affordable. Nor were they easily accessible. Despite the fact that they are advertised on school folders, they cannot be accessed by school computers because of the content filter. Frederick Johnson was outraged that he had to use a computer at home to purchase the filter. Not only that, but the price was certainly not any good kind of discount. No marvelous sales here, folks.
Once students finally were able to purchase the expensive filter they found that the filters didn’t work well. Johnson described the water filter as, “Overpriced and under approved.” All students who purchased the filters contacted Discounted Water Filters to return them. DWF was unable to take the filters back and refused to return the money. Students were outraged at their own poor money management decisions. Now, the students are stuck with the filters they purchased, and DWF is stuck with the filters they ordered.
A final piece of advice from Fredrick Johnson to all students considering the purchase: “next time you’re thinking about needing a water filter, consider washing your water bottle first.”
