CATCH My Breath is a FREE curriculum for schools through CVS Health and the CATCH Curriculum. Your school can decide where this can be taught (i.e. advisory, science, physical education, ELA, etc...) and who will teach it (i.e. counselors, RN's, teachers, social workers, etc...) Several community members are interested in coming into your school to teach about vaping. Community partners will be using the free curriculum through Stanford Medicine Tobacco Prevention Toolkit. Using this second curriculum gives additional valuable learning for our students.
Students that have been caught vaping on school property can individually complete a vaping education online course. There are two options: Second Chance and/or through the Utah Department of Public Health called Clearing the Vapor.
Second Chance is a free online curriculum developed by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Second Chance takes 2-2 1/2 hours to complete and can be completed over several visits to the site. After reviewing the information below on how to get started, if you have further questions, please contact Laura Butler, Pathways Specialist for Substance Abuse, at Laura.Butler@d51schools.org or 254-5100 ext 14127.
The Clearing the Vapor Curriculum has an estimated completion time of 1 hour. IF the student presentation has trouble loading in Chrome, open in Internet Explorer. ***This resource is currently unavailable and being updated to a different platform. Once we have access, the new link will be added. (4/10/23)***
Students can also read articles from Science News for Students and write a summary or talk to an adult explaining the harmful effects of vaping and steps they can take to quit.
