In one of Central High School exclusive class offerings, the Geometry in Construction class, lives a non-profit started on campus. In this class students learn geometry concepts and then use these skills in manufacturing builds. This class in particular uses their skills to build beds to give to children in our community completely free of charge.

The lead math and CTE teachers for this class took a training in Salt Lake city with this quickly growing organization in order to bring the non-profit opportunity to our classroom. This organization was even a feature on the show Mike Rowe's Returning the Favor (linked below).

Students now have the opportunity to fill this need in our community with over 100 beds built and delivered in the short year of its existence. As beds are provided to those who apply completely free of charge, students put in a great deal of skill to raise the $249 it costs to make each bed with that cost including lumber, mattress, and bedding.

Students, faculty, and community members are always encouraged to help children 3-17 in the community sleeping on the floor or a couch to apply for a bed.

You can also volunteer at build days organized by the class to be held outside of school hours. No knowledge of tools is required, just a heart to give.

SHP also accepts donations to fund this effort. SHP accepts new twin bedding donations year round. Contact our lead teacher below for more information and give our facebook page a follow to stay in the know!
