Bio/Profile

Hello! My name is Shanna O'Meara, and this is my seventh year of teaching. I am originally from Ohio. I grew up in a small town in Northeast Ohio. I attended The Ohio State University where I received a bachelor degree in English. After graduating, I continued my education at Muskingum University where I received a masters in education. I began my teaching career at an urban alternative arts high school in Columbus, Ohio. While I was there, I taught 9th grade language arts, creative writing, AP literature, and I was the advisor for the yearbook. I loved growing up in Ohio, but the wild west has always been calling my name. My husband and I moved to Colorado Springs in 2015, and we love it here.

Literacy is something that has always been near and dear to my heart. Being a reading interventionist is truly a calling, and I enjoy helping the students in district 49 to become better and stronger readers. I am currently going back to school at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in order to learn more about literacy and to get my reading endorsement. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, traveling, reading, and snuggling my sweet Golden Retriever.
