Wayfinder is used in grades K-8. Mrs. Donovan teaches Wayfinder to students in K-5 twice a month in their classrooms. In the junior high, Wayfinder will be taught by teachers throughout the school year. Be on the look out for newsletters as we go through the curriculum together!

Erin’s Law is an Illinois law designed to help keep children safe by requiring schools to provide age-appropriate education about personal body safety and sexual abuse prevention.
The goal is not to frighten children, but to give them simple, developmentally appropriate tools to recognize unsafe situations, understand personal boundaries, and know how to ask a trusted adult for help.
Through these lessons, students learn about topics such as safe and unsafe touches, body boundaries, trusted adults, healthy relationships, recognizing unsafe or inappropriate behavior, and how to tell someone if something makes them uncomfortable or unsafe.
At Hiawatha, the content is presented differently depending on students’ ages and developmental levels. Most importantly, students are reminded that they have the right to feel safe, they can say no to unsafe behavior, and there are trusted adults who are ready to listen and help.
In Illinois, middle school PACE (Postsecondary and Career Expectations) refers to a framework designed to guide students, families, and educators in preparing for college and career decisions, starting as early as 6th grade.
