Chorus is a class that meets during the school day, and is organized by grade level. The Hadley choruses perform three concerts a year. Students in the Hadley choral program will learn basic vocal technique, music literacy, and an increased ability to appreciate the musical art. Self-confidence and poise will be gained through successful performances. Enrollment in Chorus is open to any student!
Students involved in our instrumental program (band and orchestra) also have the opportunity to participate in chorus using the "Combo" option, which allows students to enroll in BOTH chorus and band or orchestra. See below for more information!
Want to know more? The best people to explain what we do in chorus are the students themselves! Watch the video below to see what they have to say!
Orchestra classes are grouped by grade level during the school day and are not pulled out of academic classes. Students are placed in large group ensembles mixed with the violin, viola, cello and string bass. The opportunities that your child will gain from participating in orchestra will benefit them for many years to come. Our orchestra program creates a sense of family and promotes a friendly, fun environment for our students. We learn and perform, striving for excellence, together as a team.
As students grow and develop throughout the year, they continue to learn more advanced techniques along with higher notes & positions, new strings, and learn vibrato which creates a beautiful sound on the instrument. Various styles of music are performed including classical, fiddle, pop and jazz.
6th grade orchestra is open to all students who have prior experience playing a stringed instrument. There is one combined 6th grade orchestra rehearsal after school right before each concert.
7th & 8th grade orchestra is the continuation of playing a stringed instrument from 6th grade. There is one rehearsal after school right before each concert.
All the orchestras perform for two district concerts during the school year, which are held in the fall and in the spring. In addition to performances, orchestra students may participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival, String Fest, Halloween Concert, ILMEA Festival, Annual Demonstration Concert, other festivals/clinics. There are also field trips to Glenbard West High School and to universities. Students also have the enriching opportunity to attend field trips to a professional symphony orchestra and enjoy social time to celebrate with friends.
