Choir is a graded performing music ensemble that rehearses during the school day and studies vocal music in a variety of genres/styles, languages and voicings. Students are instructed on vocal tone production, tone quality, intonation, blend, balance, musical expression and part-independence. Sight singing, music notation and music theory are a graded part of Choir and are assessed on a regular basis in preparation for High School Choir.
Each grade-level choir has several performances during the school year . There is no audition for participation in the curricular Choirs, however at the 8th grade level, students must have previous choir experience, or must have approval from the instructor in order to join.
We have several extra-curricular and co-curricular Choirs at Thompson, and we do a Fall Musical every year! Our extra-curricular choir is Holiday Choir, which is open to all TMS students. Bella Voce (honors treble choir) and Boys in Black (honors tenor-bass choir) are co-curricular, students must be members of one of our curricular ensembles to join.
If you have any questions please reach out to Michelle Rybski, thanks so much!
