Welcome to Band!

In Band we learn about music through performance. Band instruments are: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium (also known as baritone), tuba, and percussion. The middle school band program is a continuation of the 5th Grade Elementary Band and prepares students for the many Concert Band and Jazz Band courses at the High Schools. 6th Grade band members have a small-group lesson during the band class period (one teacher works with the full band while the other works separately with a small group). All bands perform 2-3 times throughout the year. There are optional groups like Jazz Ensemble and Honor Band before and after school but they are not required.

Students who play french horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba will only need to bring their mouthpiece to school each day since they are too big to manage on the bus. Those students will use the at-school instruments during band class. You still must have your own instrument at home! This avoids the need to haul the large instruments between home and school each day.
