November

Week of October 29 -November 2

Math- We finished our second module for math and took an assessment on Thursday. The kids will post pictures to seesaw as soon as I complete the grading of them.

Literacy- We reviewed some aspects from our literacy assessment this week, including summarization, character traits and prediction. I will not be sending these home, but I will have them at conferences.

Word Work- Students completed their study on r controlled long vowels. They completed a test on these on google classroom.

Writing- Students completed their on demand writing pieces. I will have these at conferences. They also began publishing a narrative writing piece of their choice. Be on the lookout for the digital version of their books. :)

Science- Students began designing a crop protector to help save the apples from hail damage on Farmer Grady's farm. We have been posting many videos and pictures to seesaw as we go about the process.

Week of November 5th-9th

Math- We began module 3 for math. Below are the areas we will be working on during this module.

Topic A: The Properties of Multiplication and Division

Topic B: Multiplication and Division Using Units of 6 and 7

Topic C: Multiplication and Division Using Units up to 8

Topic D: Multiplication and Division Using Units of 9

Topic E: Analysis of Patterns and Problem Solving Including Units of 0 and 1

Topic F: Multiplication of Single-Digit Factors and Multiples of 10 .

Literacy- We did not have much of an opportunity to work on literacy due to Cogat. We did work on using our summarization organizer to help us write full sentence paragraph summaries.

Word Work- Students had a week of from word work due to the Cogat testing.

Writing- Students began their unit on informational writing. We did our writing pre test as well as came up with ideas for informational writing.

Science- Students had their engineering designs tested for Farmer Grady. The videos were posted on seesaw. Students also began their designs for their earthquake problem. Our goal is to have these finished before Thanksgiving break. Be on the lookout for those videos next week!

Week of November 12th-16th

Math- We did so much learning this week with math! We learned about the associative property. We also learned about 6 and 7 facts and using unknowns in equations.

Literacy- Students worked on reflecting on their work for conferences. We also discussed the types of questions we can ask about books. Finally, we looked at various examples of the types of questions we can ask.

Word Work- Students learned about the rule for doubling final consonants in words.

Writing- Students began their study of informational writing. They learned how to pick a topic and then brainstorm main ideas about that topic and questions they have.

Science- Students completed their weather and climate unit for science. They build their buildings and we tested them to see how long they swayed for.

Math- We continued our practice with multiplication and division. This week, students learned about some math' tricks' with multiplication of 9.

Literacy- Students learned about inferrential thinking in texts. The read some non fiction articles and answered specific questions about the articles.

Word Work- Students continued their work in doubling the final consonants and the rule for when words do this.

Writing- Students began drafting their pieces about a specific country. They learned how to do even more research on kid friendly sites.

Social Studies- Students learned about tinkered this week in stream lab. They were also introduced to their next social studies unit of Native Americans and geography.
