Week of March 4th- March 8th

Math- Students practiced finding equivalent fractions on the number line and with their fractional pieces. The module 5 test will take place the week before spring break.

Literacy- Students reviewed and wrote summaries for nonfiction texts. They compared and contrasted their summaries from two different texts.

Word Work- Students learned about compound words this week. We went to the stream lab to animate our compound words.

Writing- On Monday, students shared their choose their own adventure projects. The projects were posted on seesaw. For the remainder of the week, we worked on responding to texts with writing.

Science- We finished our tests of simple machines. We began building our compound machines.

Week of March 11th-March 15th

Math- We finished module 5 learnings! Whew, they were tough! We will be spending next week reviewing and reteaching any concepts that were difficult. The test will be on Thursday March 21st.

Literacy- This week we integrated social studies with literacy. We worked on a hyperdoc that taught us all about immigration. We compared and contrasted videos to text about immigration.

Word Work- Students learned more parts of speech including verbs, and regular/irregular verbs.

Writing- Students continued their work on their literary essays. They learned how to explain their text evidence and prove their opinions.

Science- Take a look at seesaw to see the compound machines the kids built. I am hoping that we finish our unit before spring break next week with work on magnets and 'saving a tiger'.

Week of March 18th- March 22nd

Math- This week, we spent some time reviewing for our fractions test which took place on Thursday. Students and you will not receive grades on those until after spring break. Our next module will begin after spring break.

Literacy- We concluded our social studies literacy unit on immigration. The students ended the unit with an engaging activity with the ozobots about immigration. We also reviewed theme at the end of the week.

Word Work- We worked on adjectives and adverbs this week.

Writing- Students continued their work on writing about reading. This week we really worked on memorizing the steps in a literary essay and then using those steps in a compare/contrast writing piece.

Science- Students worked on magnetic interactions this week. We also spent time designing a compound machine that could rescue a tiger. Check out the student's seesaw posts to see their designs!
