Autism Acceptance is about celebrating neurodiversity and fostering a society where autistic people feel valued and included. Students and staff celebrated Autism Acceptance month by wearing shirts related to Autism every Thursday during the month of April.
The low incidence department went to Meijer this month for our community trip. Students were able to look for items off of their shopping list or scavenger hunt and identify the correct prices of the items & identify the next dollar up. They also practiced paying for some items at the cashier and using their best communication skills in the store.
EGG HUNT
On April 16th, the low incidence department participated in an annual egg hunt at DMS. Students had a picture of the colored egg they needed to find and went on an egg hunt in the large gym for 10 colored eggs. They used their matching and hunting skills to locate them. Eggs were filled with small prizes and fun rewards donated by staff. Students and teachers had a lot of fun. Look for an article about the egg hunt in the April 25th Superintendent Update Message put out by the District.
